Ride your way
The journey between London and Southend, one of our shorter long distance routes, is 40 miles eastwards in Essex and has two functions. One function is an airport that handles a short leisure route and attracts people from London for their services. The other function is the coast, for day trips and summer weekends.
Both have a common factor that affects the booking. The trip starts in London charging zones and finishes in some place where there isn't a quick return route at night.
London to Southend
Rail to and from Liverpool Street or Fenchurch Street is direct and frequent, and it's hard to beat on price for a straightforward run into Southend town.
The airport is a special case - it has its own station right next to the terminal, so for a single passenger with just a cabin bag, the train really is the better option.
The car takes over for the earliest departures (the first train, around 5.20am, is too late for check-in anyway), a family travelling with suitcases, and collection from outside Liverpool Street or Fenchurch Street. Even with the Congestion Charge and ULEZ added in, it still works out cheaper for four people.
Specify both addresses, the date and the time, and mention the flight number for airport pick-up. Consider the airport transfers in London if a more suitable airport is available, the Southend airport transfers for the terminal transfer and a chauffeur transfer in London for the day and not one transfer. Long distance chauffeur transfers will cover the rest.

For airport bookings, the flight tracking service will amend the pick-up to fit the arrival time with a 60 minute wait time free-of-charge and a name sign in arrivals.
