Canterbury to Heathrow is about 85 miles, one of our Kent long distance airport routes, but the distance doesn’t do it justice, since you must go around London. Which way round depends on the time of day, and that’s entirely at the driver’s discretion.
There is plenty of traffic from east Kent locals returning from long-haul flights, visitors to the cathedral city and its universities, and cruise ship passengers making onward journeys.
Canterbury to Heathrow
Canterbury's trains connect well with London, and they'd be the obvious choice if London were the destination. Heathrow is a different matter.
The airport sits on the far side of the capital from the Kent lines. The quickest public transport is Southeastern from Canterbury West to St Pancras and the Piccadilly line, or to Stratford and the Elizabeth line - about 2 hours 15 minutes. Driving via the M25 takes 1 hour 30.
That's 45 minutes longer by rail, plus a change with your bags, and it doesn't suit an early flight either: from east Kent, the first trains simply arrive too late.

If your flight leaves in the morning, be sure to book sooner than you would based on distance alone.
