The Route

London to the Cotswolds is not one trip but a range, as the destination is an area rather than a single place, and one of our day-out long distance chauffeur routes. Burford, one of the eastern Cotswold towns, is 80 miles from central London. Cirencester is closer to 95 miles while Chipping Campden is closer to 100 miles, with the area spread across counties including Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Wiltshire.

On the road, this translates into about two hours to reach the eastern towns and close to two and half hours to reach the western towns. This is why the quote is based on the exact address and not the region.

Weekend visitors, country house hotels, weddings, and mini breaks constitute the traffic. It arrives on Friday afternoons and leaves on Sundays, and a fair amount of it comes with suitcases in order to stay more than one night.

Trains run west from Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh, Kingham and Charlbury, and for villages close to those stations, rail genuinely works.

For most of the area, it doesn't. The Cotswolds is a scatter of small villages linked by narrow lanes, and a station twelve miles away with no taxi waiting outside isn't much of a solution. Sunday services are thinner still, and hauling luggage becomes the hardest part of the whole trip.
