From Portsmouth to Heathrow, it's about 70 miles north from the city via the A3 and M25 or the M27 and M3, one of our shorter long distance airport transfers. There is Southampton Airport, which is closer, but the flights from here are limited to regional ones, therefore the long-haul flights have to go to Heathrow.
What distinguishes this route from similar neighbouring ones is the port. Portsmouth is not only home to the naval base but also handles Channel ferries and cruise liners, and quite a lot of journeys originate from the port terminal, not from the house, with all the luggage included.
Portsmouth to Heathrow
By car, the A3 gets you there in an hour and fifteen minutes. Public transport takes nearly double that.
The fastest rail option is a South Western train from Portsmouth Harbour to Woking, then a coach to the terminal - about 2 hours 10 minutes. A direct coach takes 2 hours 50.
Either way, rail costs you close to an hour more, plus a change at Woking with everything you're carrying - not a trade worth making after a ferry or cruise with two weeks of luggage.
Provide the pickup address, the terminal, the date and time, as well as the flight number for collections. For ferry and cruise connections, provide the sailing time too, and make the vehicle selection based on luggage. Compare Portsmouth to Gatwick transfers for the southern airport, Heathrow transfers for the terminal end, and airport transfers in Southampton for the closer airport. There is a charging clean air zone in Portsmouth, which applies to private hire vehicles that do not meet its standard. Any charge that applies is included in the price of the comparison, not charged separately.
The charge for Heathrow forecourt and the cost of parking on collection are included, and on the inbound leg the flight is tracked, the pickup follows the landing, and the waiting time will be free for an hour.
